My Neighbour is a Nation.

My neighbour is a nation; his cry for bread is clear;
The hungry world of Asia still waits for us to hear;
The families of India hold out their hands for grain;
The cyclone’s devastation brings Bengal pain again;
The anguished eye of parent looks down upon his child,
While carefully in London, my neighbour’s need is filed.

The earthquake’s grim destruction wracks han’s heated land;
The fellahin of Egypt still plough their fields by hand;
The crowded camps in Sudan need more than special aid,
While men in Western countries tiy hard to be dismayed.
Yet standing with these people, the Christ I seem to see,
‘Your neighbour is a nation; you did it unto me’.

O Christ of all the nations, I need your grace to share
Your bounty with my neighbour, my brother’s pain to bear;
His burden help to shoulder, to stand where he must stand;
To spread the fruits of harvest - as you had always planned;
His needs to keep before me, his hunger day by day.
I am my brother’s keeper, I cannot turn away.
